Pig Program

In 2008 two women’s groups that were engaged in the rearing of pigs received support in the form of a piglet to each group member, for a total of 22 piglets, as well as enough animal feed for one year.  As part of this program, the women participating in this program have followed the initially agreed-upon rule of ‘passing on the gift’ of a piglet to women who had not yet benefitted from the program.  As a result, 14 additional women have received piglets and are now actively involved.  The 36 women who have benefited from this initiative use the funds they generate from raising and selling pigs to provide for the essential needs of their family members such as food, medication, school fees, and to purchase seeds.
